Privacy policy

Plain-English version: I only collect what I need to send you books and the occasional update, and I never sell your details.

Who I am

This site is run by Matt Davies (“I”, “me”), a children’s picture-book author based in the UK. I’m the data controller for any personal information you share here. You can reach me at mattdaviesauthor@gmail.com or via the contact form.

What I collect, and why

  • Your email address — if you sign up for a discount or update, so I can send you your code and the odd note about new books. Only with your consent.
  • Your name and delivery address — when you place an order, so your books reach you.
  • Payment details — handled entirely by Shopify’s secure checkout; I never see or store your card number.
  • Messages — anything you send through the contact form.

The companies that help me run this

I use a few trusted services that process your data on my behalf:

  • Shopify — hosts this website and runs the shop, checkout, payments, the contact form and any emails I send you. They process your data securely under their own privacy terms.
  • Payment providers — your card payment is handled through Shopify’s checkout and its payment processors. I never see or store your card details.
  • Royal Mail — I share your name and delivery address so your order can be posted to you.

Cookies

This site uses a small number of cookies: essential ones that remember what’s in your basket, and ones set by Shopify to run the checkout. These don’t identify you personally.

Where your data is stored

The shop runs on Shopify, whose systems may process and store data outside the UK. Where that happens, your information is protected by appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) in line with UK data-protection law.

How long I keep it

Order records are kept as long as I’m legally required to for tax and accounting. Marketing emails are kept until you unsubscribe — which you can do from any email I send, anytime.

Your rights

You can ask me to show you the data I hold, correct it, or delete it, and you can withdraw your consent to marketing at any time. Just email me. If you’re ever unhappy with how I’ve handled your data, you can complain to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
